,

It’s been a busy time at Inchinnan Historical Interest Group.  We held our AGM in February at the famous ‘India of Inchinnan’ building. After many years of enthusiastic and energetic leadership our Chairperson Margaret stepped down.  We are all delighted that she has agreed to stay on as a Committee member and is now our first Honourary President and temporary Treasurer.

Our new chairperson Petrina Cairns has been a member of our Committee for many years. We look forward to many more years of interesting meetings and projects steered by Petrina. We also welcomed two new Committee members.

Our AGM was followed by a display of our India Tyres archives and a screening of a documentary shown on STV in around 2000. It details the history of the listed building and the transformation of it from ruins to the busy commercial hub that exists today.  Around 70 people attended and it was great to see so many familiar faces.  Some attendees even bumped into family that they hadn’t seen for several years!

Our next meeting is back at our usual venue of Inchinnan Church Hall this Thursday 27th March and we welcome Peter Mortimer the well known Glasgow Historian and Author. Peter will be enlightening us on the history of ‘The Barras’ in Glasgow. Refreshments will also be provided. £3 per person at 7.30pm.

On Thursday April 24th Liz Allan will be delivering a talk on the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle -a Scottish Doctor, writer and spiritualist who created the world’s greatest detective Sherlock Holmes. Venue is Inchinnan Church Hall, £3 including refreshments.

Our last gathering of this session will be on May 29th where we will visit The Govan Stones.  More details to follow.
